“Take away wax, hip hop don’t have a candle”

The SD Zulu Chapter is now 3 years strong and growing! Join them in celebration of their 3rd anniversary. This is about to be ill yo.
Hey, GWSD listeners! It’s been a pleasure having y’all join us Saturday nights from 8 to 10 P.M. We hope you have also gained a new perspective in the culture of hip hop; how the music isn’t just about dope beats… But also it’s trying to send messages on politics and society. Basically, to inspire life! From DJing to MCing, may hip hop continue to enlighten us to better our lives.
Thank you for tuning in. The amount of responses about the show is great, and it’s beautiful to hear close friends are our biggest listeners!
Big ups to Keane and Dan a.k.a. Dan of afterschoolspecial for making it out to our last show for the quarter! Y’all are great, and it was fun hanging out with you that night! Be sure to give these folks a listen by clicking the picture, or search for them on iTunes! Their music is a great fusion of alternative and hip hop!
Notables: Not One for Words (the EP’s title song), Forever Pt. 2, and Future Rockstars of America
I’d like to end this post by, especially, thanking DJ Kuttin Kandi for forming Guerrilla Words San Diego. Her leadership and passion is something that lifts us, G-Dub heads, up to do great things with this group. Her constant involvement in San Diego is totally awe-inspiring.
DJ Oli Bata for bringing me in. It’s great working side-by-side with your own kin. And man, you’re becoming an ill DJ!
Def-1 and Mike P! Y’all are great peoples! It’ll be sweet to see you, two, progress with your music. Thanks for being a part of the beginning!
KSDT and UCSD, thank you for giving us access to the college radio station. It’s a great venue!
Anyone else? Decypher, all the guests, DJs… Your help and involvement is def imperative in this movement. We are grateful.
Haha, alright. There’s more in store! Take it easy, have a great summer, and you’ll hear from us, soon!
On the radio show, I shared (a couple of weeks ago) my experience of the Mos Def concert at the Belly Up Tavern. And yes! It was crazy good! MC Supernat and him made sure the house rocked that night. And wow… It was nice being a few inches from the legend…
On Tuesday, Mr. Dante Smith (that’s the real name if you didn’t know) blessed the world with his new album: The Ecstatic. And if you listen to it, you will surely agree the album lives to its name! The music coming from this latest masterpiece does lift your spirits high! Surely, when bumping soulful tracks like Casa Bey, Auditorium, History, or Priority… You couldn’t help but feel… Well… Ecstatic!

Mos Def @ the Belly Up Tavern (05.17.09)
Mos “def”initely put some PR into Ecstatic. Monday, he dropped by the Late Show with David Letterman to perform Quiet Dog (Bite Hard.) And on the release day, (as shown in the last post) he rocked with the Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to his track, Casa Bey.
With this and the immediate recognition of how beautiful his latest work is, he deserves the praise! In my opinion, this was much needed; his last two albums were chill, but not on par with Black on Both Sides. I can truly say this one is!
Overall, the Ecstatic is a renewal from the electro, poppy, robotic noise coming out of your radio nowadays. It’s well crafted with soulful and epic beats… And his poetic swag remains untarnished. I’m just happy Mos stuck with his soulful sound, and genuinely made music that… Just as it is defined for ecstatic… Lifts up your soul! He remains one of the greatest entertainers this generation… From being an awesome actor (I love his work) to still rockin’ the mic, Mos is mighty for sure!
Be sure to cop Mos Def’s album, The Ecstatic, at your local store today! You won’t regret it!

And to end this post, here are some more pictures from the concert I went to! Shoutouts to Paul E Science, Leslie, and Sister Haero for seeing y’all there!

All I gotta say is this is fresh.

Fabio Musta’s Passport album in stores May 12th, 2009!

The international scene is killin it right now! Especially Fabio Musta with his newest album Passport! These past few days I haven’t been listening to anything else except this album. This kind of high level production is very refreshing to hear and is definitely something that will get your ears hooked. I might be biased tho because the one song that got me is Senza Di Te. This song samples “Blue in Green”, from the greatest Jazz selling record Kind of Blue. There’s not much more I can say about the greatness of Fabio Musta’s Passport. Do not sleep on this! Here’s a lil sample on youtube.
